It was a good start for the Northern Hawks in the gold medal game at Keystone Cup Western Canadian Jr. B Hockey Championship in Saskatoon, Sask., but it was downhill after that.

After Nathan Spina staked Thunder Bay to an early lead courtesy of a power play marker at 1:48 of the opening period it was all Abbotsford, B.C. after that as the Pilots cruised to a 9-1 victory in the title game.

Riley Lamb was an offensive force for Abbotsford as he scored four times and dished out three assists in the romp.

Markus Leikkari suffered the loss in net for the Hawks who settled for the silver medal at the six-team event while Riley Parker picked up the win for the Pilots.

The Whitecourt Wolverines of Alberta claimed the bronze medal earlier in the day with a 7-4 triumph over the host Saskatoon Royals.
