The Northern Hawks line of Nathan Spina, Ryan Powell and Josh Elvish combined for 10 points to propel them past the Screaming Eagles 8-2 Sunday evening.
The Hawks would strike for three first period goals 1:33 apart to take early control of the contest in Thunder Bay Jr. AAA Hockey league action at Delaney Arena. A Zac Sentence goal and two by Elvish supplied the team with their three goal first frame.
Spina would increase the lead to 4-0 midway through the second before Jared Sugarhead converted on the power play at 11:34 to get the Eagles on the board.
Cory Scali would then strike twice for the league-leaders to make it a 6-1 game after 40 minutes.
A shorthanded effort by Elvish completed his hat trick in the final frame before Ryan Withersoon of the Eagles and the Hawks’ Will Moore exchanged tallies to round out the scoring.
Shots on goal favoured the Hawks by 56-21 with Jordan George picking up the win and Brandon Martin suffering the loss.
League play resumes Tuesday when the Hawks take on the Jr. B Stars at the Tournament Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.
