FORT FRANCES -- The Superior International Junior Hockey League championship final is knotted at a game apiece.
The Dryden Ice Dogs scored five straight goals Friday night and then held off the host Fort Frances Lakers, who scored three straight of their own in the third, to earn a 5-4 victory and even the best-of-seven series at a game apiece.
SIJHL most valuable player Cole Golka scored twice for the Ice Dogs, adding an assist on Trevor Kavanaugh’s second-period tally.
Kyle Pouncy and Matt Houston also scored for the visitors, who will host Game 3 and 4 of the series.
Mason Meyer had a hat trick for the Lakers, who also got a goal from Dylan Robertson.
Tate Sproxton made 33 stops to earn the win.
Fort Frances starter Nathan Park was chased 27 seconds into the third, after allowing his fifth goal on just 27 shots.
Game 3 is slated for Tuesday night.
