Jared Staal has a new contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Thunder Bay forward, who appeared in his first two NHL games at the tail-end of the strike-shortened 2013-14 season, inked a one-year, two-way deal that will pay him $550,000 if he sticks with the Hurricanes and $60,000 if he’s sent to the minors.
Staal had two penalty minutes in his first NHL season and scored four goals and three assists in 52 games with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers.
Together with older brothers Eric and Jordan, the hockey-playing siblings became the first trio of brothers to play in an NHL game together on the same team since Peter, Anton and Marian Stastny for the Quebec Nordiques in 1985.
