Krista McCarville took advantage of her opportunities on Thursday afternoon, winning her fourth straight contest at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
McCarville took a 6-3 lead after five, scoring deuces with the hammer in the first, third and fifth end against two-time champion Alison Goring of Halton, and sealed the win with a three-ender in the eighth.
With the win McCarville (4-2) continued to climb up the standings at the women’s provincial championship in Thornhill, Ont. The Thunder Bay foursome, which also includes lead Sarah Lang, second Kari MacLean and third Ashley Miharija, is tied with Uxbridge curler Susan McKnight and two other rinks in second place.
McKnight (4-2) fell 8-2 to Lisa Farnell (4-2) of the Loonie Curling Club, a one-sheet club attached to a Chaffey’s Rocks, Ont. residence.
The Ashley Kallos foursome, which includes lead Carrie Vautour, second Jackie McCormick and third Alissa Begin, earned its third win in six games, handily defeating Highland Country Club’s Marika Bakewell (1-5) 8-4 in nine ends.
Thunder Bay’s Marlo Dahl lost her sixth-draw match 7-6 to Tracy Horgan (4-2). Dahl is tied for seventh at 2-4.
Rachel Homan (5-1) tops the pack after beating Kristy Russell 8-2.
