Fort Frances forward Byron Katapaytak is up for the RBC Junior Hockey player of the year award.

Katapaytak, who won MVP honours with the Lakers this past season, while winning the Superior International Junior Hockey League scoring title, is one of 10 players in competition for the award.

A native of Moose Factory, Ont., the 20-year-old Katapaytak scored 32 goals and added 53 assists in 2011-12, then scored 11 times in 15 playoff games for the Lakers, who lost in seven games to league-champion Wisconsin in the SIJHL final.

Katapaytak is exploring post-secondary options both north and south of the border for next season.
