BLAINE, MN – Following up a successful championship run on their last trip to Minnesota, the Thunder Bay Bantam A Queens tried their luck again, this time in Blaine at the All American Girls’ Hockey Tournament.

In Friday’s action, the Queens took on the Chaska Chanhassen in an afternoon matinee. Thunder Bay notched the only goal of the opening frame as Defenceman Brooklyn Etreni setup Mylee Zechner to score just under 10-minutes into the game. In the second, Zechner went from goal scorer to playmaker assisting on Bria Filice’s goal, lifting the Queens to a 2-0 lead through two. Goaltender Camryn Williams shutout Chaska the rest of the way as Haley Wrigley added the insurance marker to make it a 3-0 final.

That evening, the Queens squared up with Minnetonka. Filice continued her scoring ways giving Thunder Bay a 1-0 lead late in the first. Queens goalie Reese Keating had to maintain the narrow lead as she got no run support through the second period until finally Defencmen Darbie Mattson and Jerzie Crocker sent the puck “D-to-D” then up to Filice who’d notch her second of the game, early in the third, to provide a bit of comfort. Keating remained perfect earning herself a shutout and the Queens a second straight shutout!

The Bantam As will meet Champlin Park at 5:20 p.m. on Saturday in the Semi-Finals of the Championship Bracket.
