THUNDER BAY – The Lakehead Thunderwolves will be without their captain when the men’s hockey team returns to the ice on Thursday afternoon.
Jordan King, who spent the past four seasons with the Wolves, has signed with a team in the Germany 3 league.
The 24-year-old has a goal and three assists in five appearances with EG Diez-Limburg, after picking up three points in eight games with Lakehead prior to the Christmas break.
“We wish Jordan all the best with his opportunity in Germany," said coach Andrew Wilkins, in a release posted to Instagram. "Jordan has been a great teammate over the years and has played some really good hockey for us, most recently our captain and staple at the top of our lineup. Jordan has such great attributes that will set himself up to be successful in his hockey-career and this next chapter of his life."
Defenceman Taylor Egan has also moved on.
Egan, a native of Carp, Ont., is now playing with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL and is point-less in five games. He was also without a point in eight games with Lakehead this season, but put up nine assists in 28 games as a rookie in 2019-20.
"Eags was consistently our hardest working player and a guy we could always rely on. His work ethic and passion for the game was second to none. Taylor has all the skills and ability to have a long career," Wilkins said, adding USports teams lost up to 60 hockey players to the pro ranks during the most recent shutdown.
The Wolves head to Brock for a matinee game on Thursday, then take on Toronto on the road on Friday and Saturday night. They’ll host the Badgers on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19, their final home games of the OUA season, and wrap up with road games against Toronto and Ryerson.
