THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Kings announced Thursday their second quarter CCM Hockey performer award recipients for the 2015-16 season.
Earning the accolades for their contributions from each of the four Kings teams are as follows:
MAJOR MIDGET – Alex Grant, Defence: The 16-year-old Grant plays a stay-at-home type of game while helping anchor the major midget club’s defensive corps in both the North American Prospects Hockey League and the Thunder Bay Jr. B Hockey League.
The Honour Roll student at Sir Winston Churchill High School was a member of the minor midget Kings last season.
Grant has a couple of goals and an assist in 13 Jr. B contests to date.
MINOR MIDGET – Jayden Mrakic, Forward: The 15-year-old forward is in his minor midget year with the organization after being part of the bantam Kings silver medal winning side at the 2015 all-Ontario provincial championship.
This season Markic sits second on the minor midget in tallies in NAPHL play with five and is third overall in points with nine.
Two of his five NAPHL markers have been game-winners, which leads the team.
BANTAM – Brad Fortier, Defence: Helping bolster the bantams’ back-end is the 14-year-old rearguard Fortier.
His efforts on defence aided in Kings in securing a second place finish at the recently held Spirit of Duluth tournament in Minnesota as he helped the squad allow only nine goals against in five games at the event.
Fortier was named the best defenceman in the Thunder Bay Minor Hockey Association bantam AA division in 2014-15 with the Beavers organization.
The Honour Roll student also played some of his earlier minor hockey for the Longlac Timberwolves.
PEEWEE – Jack Linquist, Defence: The 12-year-old Linquist is among a number of versatile members of the peewee Kings having played both defence and forward.
His on-ice contributions so far in the 2015-16 campaign has aided the peewees efforts in capturing the consolation crown at the Spirt of Duluth tourney, advance to the semifinals of the Big Nickel in Sudbury and the championship game of the Gales of November tournament in Duluth.
In his first year with the Kings, the Grade 7 student was a member of the Westfort Rangers peewee AA side last season.
