Kings open Duluth tourney with 2-1 win

After a scoreless opening frame, Duluth got on the board first, but the Kings came right back a minute later to knot the affair at 1-1 as Johnny McCollum fed Hunter Matyasovszky for the equalizer.

Valiquette then won it in the final frame to help his side start 1-0 in the tourney.

Gage Stewart recorded the win for the Kings in the opener.

Thunder Bay returns to the ice twice Saturday starting with a 1:30 p.m. match-up with the St. Paul Capitals.

They will then wrap-up the day against the Hermantown Hawks at 6:30 p.m.

A meeting vs. the White Bear Lake Bears Sunday at 9 a.m. will conclude round-robin action for the Kings.

The top two teams will play for the championship later that afternoon with the third and fourth place clubs vying for the consolation title.
