A Matthew Valiquette unassisted goal in the latter stages of the third period helped the Thunder Bay peewee Kings rally for a 2-1 victory over host Duluth East in game action Friday at the Gales of November tournament in Duluth.
After a scoreless opening frame, Duluth got on the board first, but the Kings came right back a minute later to knot the affair at 1-1 as Johnny McCollum fed Hunter Matyasovszky for the equalizer.
Valiquette then won it in the final frame to help his side start 1-0 in the tourney.
Gage Stewart recorded the win for the Kings in the opener.
Thunder Bay returns to the ice twice Saturday starting with a 1:30 p.m. match-up with the St. Paul Capitals.
They will then wrap-up the day against the Hermantown Hawks at 6:30 p.m.
A meeting vs. the White Bear Lake Bears Sunday at 9 a.m. will conclude round-robin action for the Kings.
The top two teams will play for the championship later that afternoon with the third and fourth place clubs vying for the consolation title.
