ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – They may only have two wins this season, but the Lakehead Thunderwolves aren’t going down without a fight.

On Friday night they gave the No. 2 Brock Badgers the scare of their season, besting their hosts by 18 points in the third quarter to all but erase a 19-point halftime deficit. They’d climb even with the Badgers on a Noel Jones free throw with 1:53 to play in the fourth, but back-to-back jumpers by Brock Tyler Brown sealed their fate and the Wolves went on to drop a 91-87 decision to their 18-2 opponent.

"Tonight we battled back and showed our resolve as a team. At halftime, we agreed it was a game we should be in and that we needed to chip away one possession at a time. I’m proud of the way the guys competed and stayed together. Brock’s a very good team and we’re looking forward to getting another crack tomorrow night," said Lakehead coach Ryan Thomson in a release issued by the school.

Nick Burke led LU with 15 points, while Nahshon Hurst came off the bench to score 13. Cassidy Ryan topped all scorers, pouring in 26 for the Badgers, while Johneil Simpson collected 22.

The loss dropped Lakehead’s record to 2-18, last in the OUA West.

The two teams meet again on Saturday night.
