Lakehead Express Golden Boy Tournament champions

This past Family Day weekend the Lakehead Express Soccer Club sent six teams to the Tenth Annual Golden Boy Indoor Soccer Tournament in Winnipeg and they returned with two new champions.

THUNDER BAY -- The Lakehead Express Soccer Club on Family Day weekend sent six teams to the 10th annual Golden Boy Indoor Soccer Tournament in Winnipeg and they returned with two new champions.

The LEX U 11 boys team, under the direction of coach Geoff Terpstra and assistant coach Jay Blain went undefeated over four games, winning their division with a 2-1 victory over the Thunder Bay Chill. The Chill scored first, but LEX came back in the second half to tie the game on a goal by Braydon Antilla. Brandon Byfield went on to score the game winner midway through the second half. Defender Curtis Kingston was named the player of the game.

The LEX U14 Girls team, coached by Bree Pasqualino, also went undefeated over four games with goalkeeper Karina Metz posting four straight shutouts. In the division final, LEX defeated the Bonivital Soccer Club Red team 1-0 with a goal by Lauren Henriksson. Isabella (Izzy) Logozzo was named player of the game. Lauren and Julia Henriksson were high scorers for the tournament with four goals each over the four games.
