THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced today that Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Robbie Bonthron has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. players of the week for the period ending Nov. 1.
In three games last week the 20-year-old blueliner from Kaministiqua, Ont., had points in each of them and also helped anchor the Lakers’ defensive corps as Fort Frances skated to a trio of victories.
Bonthron began by dishing out two assists by helping setting up the tying goal and the game-winner in overtime as the Lakers pulled out a 3-2 OT triumph vs. Minnesota last Tuesday.
Friday night he tacked on two more helpers as Fort Frances win 5-3 in Dryden vs. the GM Ice Dogs.
One night later Bonthron picked up his fifth point of the week as the Lakers picked up a 5-3 road decision at Thunder Bay.
Through 14 games he leads all Fort Frances defencemen with his 16 overall points also putting him second overall among SIJHL D-men.
Also earning consideration for Amyotte’s player of the week honours was Tanner Watt (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Kris Hamlin, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Brock James, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers and Konnor Dechaine, (F) English River Miners.
