Lakers double Flyers

Sioux Lookout scored early. The Fort Frances Lakers, however, scored often, eight times in the final 40 minutes as they handed the opposition Flyers their first loss of the SIJHL preseason.

Henry Gutierrez notched a pair of second period goals and Jaret Leclair had a goal and two assists, pacing the Lakers to an 8-4 road triumph Thursday night in their 2011-12 exhibition debut.

Diego Breckenridge, Wayne Foster, Byron Katapaytuk, Spencer Korum and Davis Smith also replied for Fort Frances.

The Lakers, who won their first two outings last week, got a pair from Chris Hoffman and singles from Brett Wur and Jacob Nolan.

Friday sees a pair of preseason contests, including the first action for the new-look Thunder Bay North Stars, who travel to one province west for a date with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Neepawa Natives.

The Flyers travel to Fort Frances for a shot at redemption in the other game.
