Lakers edge North Stars after lengthy shootout

It took eight shooters on each side to get the job done, but in the end the Minnesota Iron Rangers managed to outlast the Thunder Bay North Stars and earn a 4-3 shootout win on Wednesday night.

It took eight shooters on each side to get the job done, but in the end the Minnesota Iron Rangers managed to outlast the Thunder Bay North Stars and earn a 4-3 shootout win on Wednesday night.

Noah Anderson,  the 15th shooter to try his luck, beat North Stars goalie Eric Mann to secure the Fort William Gardens win for the Iron Rangers, who opened a 3-1 lead after the opening period on a pair of Jake Ellingson tallies.

Thomas Fazio also scored for Minnesota.

Nicholas Nigro, Brandon Wolframe and Matthias Gardiman scored for Thunder Bay, the equalizer coming with slightly more than five minutes to go in regulation.

Kyle Carignan made 33 stops to earn the win and saved seven of eight shots face in the shootout.

With the loss the Stars fell to 16-8-2, while the Iron Rangers pulled to within three of second-place Thunder Bay and now sit at 13-7-3.
The two teams will tangle again on Saturday night at the Gardens.
