Lakers Minerva named SIJHL player of the month for November

The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Nick Minerva has been named the Gongshow Gear Inc. performer of the month award recipient for November.

The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Fort Frances Lakers defenceman Nick Minerva has been named the Gongshow Gear Inc. performer of the month award recipient for November.

In seven games last month the Lakers assistant captain had points in six of them recording a goal and 10 assists for 11 points helping first place Fort Frances go 5-1-1 and raise their overall record to a SIJHL-best 17-3-1.

The 19-year-old native of New Brunswick, N.J., also had the deciding tally in a lengthy shootout win vs. the Dryden GM Ice Dogs back on Nov. 12.

On the season, Minerva tops all league blueliners in point-per-game average at 1.50 while sitting tied for second in offensive production among SIJHL D-men with 20 points on five markers and 15 helpers.

A three-year SIJHL veteran, Minerva has 71 points to his credit in 108 career league games having scored 23 times and helped set-up 48 others.

For his efforts, Minerva will receive a prize pack courtesy of Gongshow Gear, the official lifestyle hockey apparel of the SIJHL.

Also earning consideration for the SIJHL’s Gongshow Gear performer of the month award was Derek McPhail, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Alex Maticic, (F) English River Miners; Riley Corbin, (G) Thunder Bay North Stars and Alex Arnold, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
