Lally blanks River Bats

John Lally pitched eight shutout innings and Cullen Mahoney took over top spot in the Northwoods League batting race on Friday night, as the Thunder Border Cats snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over the visiting St. Cloud River Bats.
John Lally pitched eight shutout innings and Cullen Mahoney took over top spot in the Northwoods League batting race on Friday night, as the Thunder Border Cats snapped a two-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over the visiting St. Cloud River Bats.

Lally struck out five and only allowed four hits in winning his first game in three decisions. Mahoney, who scored once and drove another in, had two doubles and a triple as part of his 4-for-4 night. He lifted his average to .359, six points better than Mankato’s Shaun Cooper.

Tyler Wolseger, with two, Brett Kay and Casey Selsor also drove in runs for the Cats, who lit up St. Cloud starter Austen Wisroth for 11 hits and five earned runs in seven innings.

The game was played in front of 596 Port Arthur Stadium faithful.
