Late game rallies allow Cats to down Bats 8-3

The Border Cats opened their five-game road trip with a convincing win in St. Cloud Thursday. The Cats rallied in the eighth and ninth innings, after trailing 3-2, to collect an 8-3 win St. Cloud River Bats.

The Cats rallied in the eighth and ninth innings, after trailing 3-2, to collect an 8-3 win St. Cloud River Bats. The win bring the Cats second-half record to 13-14.

The eighth inning rally saw David Fallon collect a two-run home run, which put the cats ahead 4-3. Fallon added a two-run double in the ninth and went 2-4 for the night with four RBIs.

Ino Patron, Kevin Taylor, Alex Guthrie and Bret Kay all collected a pair of hits in the Border Cats’ 14-hit effort.

Starting pitcher Casey Selsor was forced to settle for a no decision. Meanwhile, the late-game rally allowed relief pitcher Nick Dawson to collect his first win.

Dawson helped secure his win with 2.1 scoreless innings, which included three strikeouts. The New Zealand native has not allowed a run in two appearances, which combined for 4.1 innings of work.

The Border Cats will face the River Bats in game two of a three-game series Friday night. That game is scheduled to start at 8:05 p.m.

 Cory Caruso will make his second start of the season. He has an 0-1 record in four games.
