Late-inning loss for Border Cats on road

The struggling Thunder Bay Border Cats’ woes continued Saturday night in St. Cloud.

The struggling Thunder Bay Border Cats’ woes continued Saturday night in St. Cloud.

After erasing an early three-run deficit, the visiting Cats couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 4-3 to the Rox to remain mired in last place in the Northwoods League’s North Division.

Clay Ardeeser doubled off reliever Wes Hasabeck in the eighth to score Eric Loxtercamp with the winning run.

Loxtercamp walked off Nathaniel Leon to open the decisive inning.

The Border Cats first run came in the fifth, a Christian Correa single scoring Tyler Rolland. They added two more in the sixth, chasing St. Cloud starter Josh Taylor.

Nick Studer scored Cory Kay on a grounder for Thunder Bay’s second run, with Rolland singling home Robb Paller with the equalizer off Dalton Sawyer.

Leon was tagged with the loss, his first. It was the team’s second straight defeat.

Kevin Burgee earned the win.

The Cats (3-9) return home Tuesday to start a set against Alexandria.
