Leafs GM Brian Burke is making the trek to Thunder Bay to welcome more than 400 athletes to the Games, which are scheduled between Jan. 20 and Jan. 23.
Frank Hayden, who founded Special Olympics in Canada, will also be on hand for the ceremonies, which kick off at 7 p.m. at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium.
During the Games athletes will compete in a number of winter sports, including speed skating, curling, snowshoeing, alpine and Nordic skiing and figure skating.
The Games are also a qualifier for the 2012 Special Olympics National Winter Games being held in St. Albert, Alta.
