The renovations at Thunder Bay's Legion track are nearly complete, just in time for the elementary school track and field championships starting next week.
Unfortunately for high school students in the area, the renovations weren’t complete in time for their track championships.
City parks manager Paul Fayrick calls the renovations an exciting time for the local track and field community. The facility has been completely redeveloped and is complete with a brand new track and new artificial field turf.
Fayrick added that after more than 30 years of using the old track, it was certainly time for an upgrade.
Work on the estimated $3 million project began this time last year.
Crews are now adding some finishing touches to the new surface.
The work is expected to be completed on Saturday.
