Littlefield, Atatise heading to Ontario Amateur

Littlefield, the 2010 Canadian Tire District Amateur champion, fired a two-under 34 on the back nine Sunday at Whitewater Golf Course to finish at even par 72, securing the first of two spots at the provincial c hampionship in Georgetown starting July 8.

“I feel really comfortable with my swing right now,” Littlefield said in a release. It’s his fourth trip to the Amateur.

Atatise had a lengthier route, knocking off Jeff Hunter in a playoff, rolling in a 15-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole.

Both Hunter and Atatise shot two-over 74s on the day.

Bill Shewchuk grabbed the other provincial berth up for grabs on Sunday, beating Nathan Mercier by six strokes to earn the Thunder Bay District Golf Association spot at the Ontario Mid-Amateur Championship, slated for Gravenhurst from June 23-25. 

Shewchuk shot a seven-over 79 for the win.
