While most of the NTDC Thunder Bay team was putting in long training hours on the trails at home, a few of the skiers hit the race courses out at the Callaghan Valley Ski Centre, home of the nordic events for the 2010 Olympics.

Friday’s freestyle sprint races saw Katherine Stewart-Jones surge from 5th to third in the last seconds to get on the Senior Women’s podium. In the Senior Men’s event, Evan Palmer-Charrette and Bob Thompson came 7th and 8th respectively.

On Saturday, Stewart-Jones was 5th for the Senior Women in the 10km classic, while Palmer –Charrette was 3rd Senior Man in the 15km classic. Thompson finished 6th in that event and was part of the winning Senior Men’s relay team Sunday (along with NTDC alumni Jack Carlyle and Andy Shields).

Now the team splits up for a variety of mid -season races: the Eastern Canadian Championships (Gatineau), World Junior/U23 Championships (Park City Utah), and various regional and World Cup races in Europe.
