Home cooking must be looking tasty to the Thunder Bay Border Cats right about now.
The Northwoods League team dropped a 9-6 decision on the road to Alexandria on Thursday night, chalking up their fifth straight defeat in the process.
The Cats took a 3-1 lead in the second, but once again their pitching couldn’t contain their opponent, the Blue Anchors answering back with three of their own in their half of the inning to take the lead for good.
Alex Bautista hit his fourth homerun of the season for Thunder Bay, driving in a pair. Joey Hawkins also had a couple of RBI for the Cats, who collected eight hits against three Alexandria hurlers, six of them against starter Eldon Evans.
Evans wasn’t all that effective, giving up five runs and walking six in 5.2 innings, but it was enough to earn the victory, his second in three decisions.
Chris Kerwood took the loss for the Border Cats, surrendering six runs on eight hits to fall to 3-4.
George Salem hit a pair of homers for the Blue Anchors, while Andrew Sohn and Aaron Gretz also went deep for the winning side.
