Head coach Kip Sigsworth and his Lakehead Thunderwolves track and field team will head across the Canada-US border this weekend to Duluth, Minn., for the St. Scholastica-hosted Lake Superior Challenge, Saturday, Feb. 13.

The meet, featuring NCAA DII schools from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan will serve as LU’s final tuneup meet in anticipation of the OUA Championships, later this month at Toronto.

The Wolves are looking to convert their strong early-season efforts into success against their American rivals. The LU record-setting men’s four-by- 800 metre relay team should factor into the top tier results at the meet and are looking to continue their build towards the conference finals where they will target a CIS qualification.

Sophomore Alastair Brown, of Winnipeg, has been running well and should be competitive at the 1,500 metre distance while Travis Roske, of Regina, is coming of his second personal best in the 1,000 metre of the year last weekend at Winnipeg and is looking strong heading into the Duluth event.

On the women’s side, sophomore sprinter Vanessa Ivec (Thunder Bay) ran a 300 metre PB last weekend as did Tess Naroski (Thunder Bay) in the 1,500 metre and Lisa Alaimo (Hamilton, Ontario) in the 3000m. Naroski, in particular has enjoyed a competitive season and will be eyeing this weekend as an opportunity to built her competitive edge.
