The Lakehead Thunderwolves can’t count on any one player to step up each night.
But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
On Saturday night it was American Venzal Russell’s turn to make his mark on the hard court. Russell scored 17 points and added six rebounds, powering the Wolves men to a second straight win over Guelph, a 71-63 triumph that maintained their hold on second place in the OUA West Division.
Ryan Thompson had 13 and Greg Carter and Yoosrie Salhia scored 11 apiece for the victorious Wolves (8-2). Michael Petrella had 18 for the last-place Gryphons (3-7).
Lakehead returns to Thunder Bay for a pair of games next weekend against third place Laurier.
