The Lakehead Thunderwolves hung with the MacMaster Marauders through four sets, but couldn't pull out the win in the fifth and deciding match.
The volleyball squad fell 15-6 Sunday in the final set, falling to 0-6 on the season. They split the first four games, losing the opener 25-21 before rebounding to win the second 25-16. McMaster responded with a 25-22 nailbiter, with LU taking the fourth 25-23.
Jorie Daymond was the high scorer for Lakehead, contributing 21 points on 18 kills, two aces and a stuffed block.
"Again this afternoon we had a very good game plan. When everyone listens, does their job and commits to it we can succeed. We had to control Shannon McRoberts from Mac. We had to dictate when she could be set. The girls did it and did it wellsaid Lakehead coach Chris Green in a statement.
"We had solid performances from all players and especially offensively from Jorie Daymond. Brittany Macleod and Michelle Cournoyer did a great job controlling the middle. The fifth set showed us we still have work to do. We let the game come to us and that is not how we got to the fifth set."
The women have their home opener versus York this Friday, November 11, at 7 p.m. at the Thunderdome.
