The Western Mustangs proved they could hang with the Lakehead Thunderwolves for 20 minutes.

But an OUA men’s basketball game is twice that long. That was a different story on Friday night.

The Wolves, the No. 1 seed in the  OUA West heading into next weekend’s playoffs, outscored their opponent 47-33 on the road, cruising to an 85-75 win, their fourth straight with one to go in the regular season.

Guard Greg Carter had 15 points and five assists to lead the way for the Thunderwolves (17-4). Venzal Russell had 13 and Matt Schmidt hit double figures with 11 for Lakehead, who will take on the Mustangs again on Saturday night, then wait a week to see who they’ll host in the OUA quarterfinals.

Peter Scholtes had a game-high 18 for Western (10-11)
