LU women thumped by Windsor, but still alive

The OUA’s playoff format is a tad confusing this season, but one thing's crystal clear: despite being slaughtered 95-40 by the Windsor Lancers, the Lakehead Thunderwolves are still alive in women’s basketball.
The OUA’s playoff format is a tad confusing this season, but one thing's crystal clear: despite being slaughtered 95-40 by the Windsor Lancers, the Lakehead Thunderwolves are still alive in women’s basketball.

The Lancers had six players in double figures on Saturday in advancing to Sunday’s OUA semifinal.  Lindsay Druery and Tasia McKenna, who combined for 59 points in Wednesday’s opening round playoff win over Brock could only manage 11 against Windsor, who held Lakehead to just 13 points in the first half. Emily Ross led all LU scorers with nine points.

However the Wolves still have a chance to make nationals. Lakehead plays No.3 Western in Sunday’s third-place game at the OUA West Final Four in Windsor.  The Mustangs were beaten 76-74 on Saturday by upstart Laurier.

Should the Wolves win on Sunday -- they were swept by Western last weekend to end the regular season -- it would earn them a home-court match next weekend against the winner of the OUA East’s third place game. The winner of that game would get the OUA’s final spot at nationals.
