THUNDER BAY – Lakehead’s Leashja Grant has been named to the USports all-Canadian first team.

However, the OUA’s most valuable player lost out in her bid to become the second Thunderwolves player in three years to be named the country’s top player.

Acadia’s Paloma Anderson took home player of the year honours at the annual all-Canadian awards banquet on Wednesday night.

Grant, an NCAA transfer in her first season with the Thunderwolves, was second in the country, averaging 22.3 points per game. She led the nation in rebounding, averaging 14.1 boards a night.

The psychology major was also eighth in blocked shots, with 1.5 per game.

Anderson led all USports players with 5.5 assists per game, second only to LU’s Jerika Baldin in total assists this past season.

The Wolves finished 16-8 with Grant powering in the paint, losing to Windsor in the second round of the OUA playoffs.

Grant returns for a final season in 2018-19.
