Lakehead’s fledgling baseball team has its final 2012 recruit.
Thunder Bay catcher, outfielder and pitcher Tyler MacAskil, a Superior Collegiate graduate, has agreed to join the team after spending three seasons with the under-19 Elite Thunder Bay Mountain Hawks.
Most recently MacAskil hit .300 for the Hawks, with 14 runs, 12 stolen bases and a 5-2 record on the mound.
"Taylor was sought after by the University of Minnesota Duluth and chose Lakehead to pursue his degree and play ball, and we are very happy to have such a versatile player who will help us in all facets of the game,” LU coach Jason Hart said in a release.
Open tryouts for the team are scheduled on Sept. 8 and 9 at Baseball Central from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m..
Players must be full-time students in possession of a valid passport.
Lakehead’s first games is scheduled for Sept. 29 on the road against Winona State University.
Their first home games will be the Blue vs. Gold World Series, a best-of-seven event slated to start Oct. 23 at Baseball Central.
