Mascarin tops local OHL draft contingent

Dylan Mascarin was the first Thunder Bay player chosen Saturday in the Ontario Hockey League priority selection draft.

The Thunder Bay Kings left-winger was nabbed in the fifth round by the Plymouth Whalers. Nine picks later teammate Riley Corbin was chosen by the Sudbury Wolves, with the final pick of the fifth round.

The Whalers dipped back into the Thunder Bay well in the ninth round, selecting right-winger Connor Sills with the 12th pick of the round. Two rounds later the Sarnia Sting, coached by Thunder Bay’s Trevor Letowski, picked up Kings winger Billy Exell.

Foreard Jordan Larson was the fifth King to go, heading to Sault Ste. Marie with the third pick of the 12th round.

The Wolves stayed in Northwestern Ontario in the 13th round, picking up Fort Frances left-winger Colten Spicer, the final regional player chosen in the 15-round draft.
