The Lakehead Thunderwolves fell a bucket short of the CIS men’s basketball upset of the season.

Henry Tan shocked the Brock Badgers fan base, sending Friday’s OUA game to overtime with a deep bomb from 32 feet out, but their No. 4-ranked opponent pulled it out in the extra period, hanging on for an 82-80 win.

Tan scored 24 points, including the equalizer with 1.8 seconds to go in the fourth.

The Wolves had chances to send it to a second OT or even win it, but fell short. Bacarius Dinkins missed a pair of free throws in the final minute and guard Nick Burke, who finished with 16 points, fell short on a potential game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.

“Our guys prepared well all week and when you do that it gives us a chance against anybody,” said Lakehead coach Manny Furtado in a release.

“We gave up too many second-chance points, which is really the difference in the game. We’ll regroup and get ready for Round 2 tomorrow.”

The loss drops the Thunderwolves below .500 at 3-4. Division rival Brock improved to 4-1.
