MBB: Robichaud powers Lakehead to third straight win

A slow start did nothing to stop Alex Robichaud and the Lakehead Thunderwolves from continuing their winning ways.

A slow start did nothing to stop Alex Robichaud and the Lakehead Thunderwolves from continuing their winning ways.

Robichaud scored 18 points and hauled in 10 rebounds on Friday night, leading the visiting Thunderwolves to a 78-63 win over the York Lions. Henry Tan finished with 16 points and Bacarius Dinkins joined Robichaud in the double-double club, scoring 14 while grabbing 10 boards.

The Lions smothered the Wolves in the opening quarter, taking a 16-13 lead into the second. But LU fought back and took a two-point lead into halftime.

They ran away with it in the third, outscoring the Lions 22-10.

Twenty-one of Lakehead’s 78 points came off the bench, led by Brandon Persad’s nine on 3-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc.

Reserve Gene Spagnuolo led York with 19 points in just 23 minutes of court time.

The win moves the Thunderwolves (8-5) to within a game of second-place McMaster (9-4) in the OUA West. Lakehead takes on Queen’s (8-5) on Saturday night.
