MBB: Wolves hang on to edge Golden Hawks

Dwayne Harvey’s the veteran presence the Thunderwolves need and the Lakehead guard came through in the clutch on Saturday night.

Up by 14 late in the third, the Wolves found themselves staring up at a two-point deficit late in their contest against the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Harvey put an end to that in a hurry, a spin move fooling the Laurier defender. He hit the easy lay-up and the drew the foul, the successful-three-point play putting the Wolves back on top, 73-72. Guard Henry Tan sealed it with a pair of free throws, a Laurier three-point attempt at the buzzer to tie ringing harmlessly off the rim.

Harvey finished with 17 point to lead Lakehead, with Alex Robichaud scoring a dozen and Justin Bell adding 10 for the Wolves, who improved to 7-13 and leapfrogged Guelph into fifth place in the OUA West.

The Wolves still have an outside shot at hosting a first-round playoff game. Western is currently in fourth at 8-11. Laurier, at 9-11, is in third.

Lakehead wraps up OUA regular season play next weekend at home against Guelph.
