THUNDER BAY - One night after narrowly escaping with a season-opening win, the Lakehead Thunderwolves weren't so lucky on Saturday.
The Guelph Gryphons salvaged a weekend split with a 61-50 win in OUA men's hoops regular season action at the Thunderdome.
Guelph didn't waste any time jumping ahead, taking a commanding 22-9 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
The two teams had a tough night offensively, with Lakehead shooting 31.6 per cent from the field while the Gryphons converted at just a 30.9 per cent rate. They also combined to go only 7-for-35 from downtown.
The Thunderwolves struggled at the free throw line, going 9-for-16. Lakehead also turned the ball over 20 times, compared to 11 for Guelph.
Andrew Grant led the Gryphons with 14 points off the bench, the only Guelph player to crack the double digit mark.
Forward Bacarius Dinkins led Lakehead with 21 points and six boards.
The Ottawa Gee Gees and Carleton Ravens will vist the Thunderwolves next weekend.
