THUNDER BAY – Krista McCarville is a win away from the women’s curling Olympic pre-trial tournament.

The 35-year-old skip from Thunder Bay on Saturday earned a spot in the A final at the Road to the Roar Olympic pre-trials event in Summerside, P.E.I.

McCarville, lead Sarah Potts, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly doubled Edmonton’s Kelsey Rocque rink 8-4, and now has two chances to grab one of the two Olympic trials spots available this week.

The six-time provincial champion, who celebrated her birthday on Friday, opened with two in the first with the hammer and added two more in third to jump in front 4-1.

Rocque scored singles in the fourth and six end and trailed 5-3 entering the seventh, when McCarville scored her third deuce of the day to put the match away.

McCarville will take on Winnipeg’s Briane Meilleur in the A Final. The winner earns a spot at the Olmpic trials next month in Ottawa, while the loser will have a second chance to advance in Sunday’s B Final. The A Final is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Meilleur matched McCarville with a 4-2 round robin record, falling 5-3 when the two teams met earlier in the week.

Rocque will take on Sheri Middaugh in the B quarterfinal.
