SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Krista McCarville is playoff bound at the Road to the Roar Olympic curling pre-trials.

Not a bad 35th birthday present.

The Thunder Bay skip on Friday afternoon scored a 7-4 win over Manitoba’s Kerri Einarson, putting the match away with a deuce in the 10th end.

McCarville, whose team includes lead Sarah Potts, second Ashely Sippala and third Kendra Lilly, trailed 1-0 through three ends, the two teams blanking the first two frames. She took control of the game in the fourth, scoring three with the hammer to go up 3-1. McCarville never trailed from that point on, stealing one in the sixth to stretch her lead to three.

Up 4-3 the teams traded points in the eighth and ninth, McCarville taking back the hammer in the 10th and wrapped up round-robin play at 4-2.

The win clinched top spot in the Pool B standings and set up crossover semifinal match against Edmonton’s Kelsey Rocque, a two-time world junior champion.

The winner of that match earns a spot in the A final. The loser will be slotted into the B quarterfinal.

Einarson will take on Sheri Middaugh on Saturday in a tiebreaker match to keep their Olympic trial hopes alive.
