McCarville drops pair, Dahl splits at Ontario Scotties

It just wasn't Krista McCarville's day.

It just wasn't Krista McCarville's day.

After falling 9-3 in the afternoon draw Thursday to Idylwylde's Tracy Horgan, the Thunder Bay skip her foursome dropped a 7-5 decision to former champion Sherry Middaugh in the nightcap, slipping to 4-3 and a tie for fourth place at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kenora.

The second and fourth ends proved to be the undoing for McCarville, Ashley Miharija, Sarah Lang and Liz Kingston against Middaugh.

After scoring a single to go up 1-0 after one, McCarville surrendered a triple in the second to give Middaugh (4-3) control of the match.

The Thunder Bay rink evened things up in the third, and were tied 5-5 after seven. But with the hammer and down 6- 5 after blanking the ninth, she surrendered a steal of one in the 10th to go down to defeat.

Dahl, who curls out of the Port Arthur Curling Club, suffered a similar fate in the late draw, though she did manage to pull out a 10-6 win earlier in the day over King Township's Kathy Brown.

Dahl (3-4) and Horgan (5-2) went back and forth in this one, with the latter skip taking a 6-4 lead with a pair in the seventh. Dahl got them back in the eighth, but Horgan managed to blank the ninth and scored one with the hammer coming home to eke out a 7-6 win.

Ottawa's Rachel Homan continues to top the standing, winning a pair of matches on Thursday to sit at 7-0 with two games on Friday to go.

Horgan and Auld are tied for second with 5-2 marks, with McCarville and Middaugh a win behind in fourth.

McCarville will look to turn things around on Friday, taking on winless Laura Pickering in the afternoon draw and finishing with Auld.

Dahl gets Alison Nimik (2-5) and former champion Jen Hanna (2-5).
