McCarville edges Horgan in Scotties semifinal

Krista McCarville won’t have much time to collect her thoughts, but the Thunder Bay skip is OK with that.

Team McCarville scored a 7-5 win over Sudbury’s Tracy Horgan on Sunday morning, earning a date with Ottawa’s Rachel Homan in Sunday afternoon’s Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts final. The 28-year-old McCarville is looking to win her third straight provincial women’s curling championship, and fifth in six years.

Horgan, who lost to her opponent 8-4 on Wednesday, gave McCarville everything she had in the semifinal round.

She scored a pair in the third end to take a 3-1 lead, but McCarville responded with a three-ender in the fourth. Horgan tied the match in the fifth, but after the teams blanked the sixth, McCarville picked up one in the seventh and stole one in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead.

Horgan got one back in the ninth, but McCarville wrapped up a trip to the final with a single in the 10th.

McCarville’s team also includes lead Sarah Lang, second Kari MacLean and third Ashley Miharija.

The final is set for 2 p.m. in Thornhill, Ont.
