McCarville eliminated at Scotties

Krista McCarville, Ashley Miharija, Sarah Lang and Liz Kingston will have to wait until next year.

The Thunder Bay foursome fell 5-1 Saturday to former champion Sherry Middaugh in the 3-4 Page Playoff and was eliminated from contention at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kenora.

Middaugh, who had the hammer to start, scored a single in the first, then the two teams blanked five straight ends, the scoreless string ending in the seventh when McCarville evened the match with a single point.

Middaugh took back the hammer and used it to score a pair in the ninth to go up 3-1, then stole a pair in 10 to put the contest away.

Middaugh will play Tracy Horgan in Sunday's semifinal. Horgan dropped a 5-3 decision to undefeated Rachel Homan of Ottawa in the 1-2 Page Playoff. Homan, with the win, earned an automatic berth in Sunday's final.

The winner of the week-long event will represent the province at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month.
