Northern Ontario team must needs to win round-robin finale and hope for a Jennifer Jones loss on Friday night to clinch a tiebreaker spot at the Roar of the Rings in Ottawa.

OTTAWA – Krista McCarville is in a must-win situation – and she needs help from an Ontario rival.

The 35-year-old skip from Thunder Bay on Friday had her 10th end draw come up short, allowing unbeaten Chelsea Carey to steal a pair, earn a 5-2 win and a berth in Sunday’s championship final at the Roar of the Rings Olympic women’s curling trials in Ottawa.

McCarville is left needing a win in her final round-robin draw against Val Sweeting, while needing Rachel Homan to hold off Jennifer Jones (5-2) to force a tiebreaker between McCarville and Jones.

A loss for McCarville, or a Jones win and the Northern Ontario team’s Olympic dreams will be crushed for another four years.

Sweeting leads McCarville 3-1 through four ends.

Jones and Homan play at 7 p.m.
