McCarville playoff bound, Dahl comes up short

Krista McCarville swept her way Friday into the 3-4 Page Playoff at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kenora.

Krista McCarville swept her way Friday into the 3-4 Page Playoff at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kenora.

The Thunder Bay skip and her foursome of Ashley Miharija, Liz Kingston and Sarah Lang stole the final point of Friday's ninth draw, giving the former champion a 6-4 win over Cathy Auld and a tie for third place with Sherry Middaugh, her opponent in Saturday's playoff.

Middaugh beat King Township's Kathy Brown 2-1 in the final draw, a game that saw the two skips blank the first eight ends.
McCarville and Middaugh's wins knocked Auld (5-4) out of playoff contention, and erased any chance Thunder Bay's Marlo Dahl had of squeaking into a tiebreaker. Dahl knocked off former champ Jen Hanna 8-6 on Friday night to finish 5-4, one win short of advancing.

Ottawa's Rachel Homan, the defending champ, continued her mastery on Friday, winning both her matches, including a 6-4 triumph over Laura Pickering that gave her a clean sweep of the round robin and a perfect 9-0 record heading into Saturday's 1-2 Page Playoff against Idylwylde's Tracy Horgan.

McCarville, who lost 7-5 to Middaugh on Thursday, will play the 3-4 match at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Horgan and Homan will go at 3 p.m.
