GRAND PRAIRIE, Alta. -- Krista McCarville hasn’t had much luck curling against Jennifer Jones.
That all changed on Sunday night.
The Thunder Bay skip drew to the four-foot with her final shot to score a pair in the 10th end and down the five-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion 8-7 to remain unbeaten at the national women’s curling championship in Grand Prairie, Alta.
McCarville, lead Sarah Potts, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly led just once the entire game, taking a 1-0 lead in the first starting with the hammer.
Making her fifth appearance at the Scotties, McCarville kept hanging around. Jones scored deuces in the second, fourth and sixth ends, but gave up a steal of one in the eighth that allowed Team Northern Ontario back in the match. McCarville tied it 4-4 with two in the fifth.
Jones, the defending champion, scored one in the ninth to go up 7-6.
Next up for Team McCarville is a Monday afternoon date with Alberta’s Chelsea Carey, the only other undefeated team in the tournament.
Both teams are 3-0. The match will air on TSN 3 and TSN 4 at 3:30 p.m.
Jones fell to 1-2 with the loss.
