McCarville rolls into Scotties semis

The Thunder Bay rink earned its way into the semifinal at the Ontario women’s curling championship being staged in Thornhill with a 6-2 win over Susan McKnight.

McCarville, lead Sarah Lang, second Kari MacLean and third Ashely Mihariha defeated Horgan 8-4 in round robin play on Wednesday.

Horgan fell 12-4 to Homan in the 1-2 Page Playoff earlier on Saturday.

The two-time defending champion McCarville rink took a 1-0 lead with the hammer in the first, and went up 2-1 in the fifth.

McCarvillestole one in the sixth to take a two-point lead, then up 3-2 earned a point in the eighth, stealing singles in the ninth and 10th to clinch the semifinal berth.

Sunday’s semifinal is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., with the final slated to go at 2 p.m.
