McCarville rolls into Scotties semis

Krista McCarville and Sudbury’s Tracy Horgan will meet on Sunday to decide who takes on Ottawa’s Rachel Homan for the right to represent the province next month at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The Thunder Bay rink earned its way into the semifinal at the Ontario women’s curling championship being staged in Thornhill with a 6-2 win over Susan McKnight.

McCarville, lead Sarah Lang, second Kari MacLean and third Ashely Mihariha defeated Horgan 8-4 in round robin play on Wednesday.

Horgan fell 12-4 to Homan in the 1-2 Page Playoff earlier on Saturday.

The two-time defending champion McCarville rink took a 1-0 lead with the hammer in the first, and went up 2-1 in the fifth.

McCarvillestole one in the sixth to take a two-point lead, then up 3-2 earned a point in the eighth, stealing singles in the ninth and 10th to clinch the semifinal berth.

Sunday’s semifinal is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., with the final slated to go at 2 p.m.
