McCarville still perfect

Krista McCarville made relatively easy work of Quebec’s Eve Belisle Sunday night, turning a five-point fourth end into a runaway 12-6 victory that kept her undefeated at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Sault Ste. Marie.

McCarville (3-0) and Belisle both decided on an offensive tact, leaving all thoughts of defence behind in the high-scoring match that gave the Lakehead skip her second win of the day.

"That's the craziest curling game I've ever played in my whole entire life, absolutely crazy," said McCarville, who curled an uncharacteristically low 67 per cent in the match.

"I mean, I had a four-point lead and I was not happy. I left her (Belisle) with a double for five and she was close to making it. I was worried. The ice was changing a little bit. It was tricky. I wasn't sure what was going on out there. I wasn't confident of where I was putting the broom. I just wanted to get off the ice and come out with a win."

McCarville, lead Kari MacLean, second Ashley Miharija and third Tara George are tied with Team Canada’s Jennifer Jones atop the Scotties standings.

McCarville takes on Saskatchewan’s Amber Holland (1-2) Monday.

In other Draw 5 action, New Brunswick’s Andrea Kelly (1-2) kept Nova Scotia’s Nancy McConnery (0-4) winless with a 10-6 triumph, P.E.I.’s Kathy O’Rourke (3-1) kept her hot start on track, downing the Northwest Territories’s Sharon Cormier 10-7 and Holland stole points in the ninth and 10th ends to secure an 8-5 win, her first of the week, over Shelley Nicholls of Newfoundland (1-2).
