Tasia McKenna started the week 70 points shy of second place on the Lakehead Thunderwolves all-time scoring chart.
Two wins later and she’s within striking distance this weekend.
McKenna, who had 35 points in Friday’s win over McMaster, including 20 of 22 points the team scored in the fourth quarter, then added a dozen more in Saturday’s triumph, as a result was named LU’s female athlete of the week.
Skier Ben Jones took the male athlete award, finishing second in the 10-kilometre skate-ski event at the Minneapolis Super Tour and a field of 44.
Jones finished in 26:10.6, two seconds back of Thunder Bay’s Jimmy Gunka, a member of the National Development Centre squad.
Jones will be part of Lakehead’s team that heads to the OUA championships in Sudbury in two weeks time.
