MHKY: Thunderwolves playoff hopes take another hit with loss to Lions

The Saturday night woes continued on the road for the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team.

A night after downing the Brock Badgers in OT, the Wolves dropped their seventh Saturday night tilt of the season, falling 3-1 to the OUA West-leading York Lions (14-6-3).

Greg Milner and Tyler Mort staked the Lions to a 2-0 lead. Lakehead’s Matt Alexander, with his second of the season, cut the York lead in half at 9:01 of the second. But the Wolves were unable to get the equalizer, Reid Jackman scoring with 30 seconds to go in regulation to put the contest away.

Lakehead (5-13-4) returns home next weekend to face the Waterloo Warriors for a pair at Fort William Gardens on Friday and Saturday night.

The Lions win helped them remain in first, a point ahead of Western, who doubled McGill 4-2 on Saturday night.

The Wolves, with six games remaining, slipped six points behind Toronto for the eighth and final playoff spot in the division. The Varsity Blues edged Guelph 2-1.
