Minot State takes out Wolves women

Lindsay Druery had a pre-season high 23 points, but the Lakehead Thunderwolves could not overcome an early deficit, falling Friday night 69-57 to Minot State University.

The North Dakota school built an early 21-9 lead, then held off repeated runs by the Wolves to preserve the victory.

British import Kelsey Bardsley added 15 for the Wolves, who also got double digits form Ayse Kalkan. Christina Boag had 19 for MSU, while sister Carly Boag had 15.

Lakehead coach Jon Kreiner gave kudos to his team's resilience, but knows they need to address their match-up problems with tall teams.

"Tonight we got down early but fought hard to get the game within reach and we were down one with two seconds in the first half. But we broke down defensively and they hit a three at the buzzer. We came out strong early in the second getting the game back to one, but the size of Minot hurt us as they scored 24 of their 30 points on seconnd chance opportunities or from the free throw line,” Kreiner said.

“Lindsay and Kelsey were great tonight, especially in the first half but we really struggled against their huge zone in the second half.”
