March 3, 2016 — Thunder Bay, Ont. Leah Mousseau and Alyssa Genereux of the women's volleyball team were recognized today by the OUA, as they were selected to the OUA West All-Rookie team.
"When the athletes' work is recognized by OUA awards, it adds to the positive work we all do at Lakehead," says coach Chris Green. "This year, Leah Mousseau and Alyssa Genereux have had that honor bestowed upon them. I am proud of Leah's return to play after missing her entire season last year."
Mousseau, of Ottawa, went down with a knee injury of September in 2014, which nullified her first year as a Thunderwolf, but she used the experience to study the game and Lakehead's systems, along with getting back into game shape with great results.
Green comments, "Leah has dedicated countless hours of pain, sweat and tears to the process of returning to play. As a team we are proud of her and I feel she has shone as a leftside for her official first year of play."
Alyssa Genereux, a libero from Scarborough, came into the demanding role that the libero plays within Lakehead's highly defensive system and sparkled in her freshman season.
Coach Green praises Genereux, saying, "Alyssa has a special place as well, to come in as a Libero and make an impact everyday, every practice and every game is special. To be one of only a couple rookies to be at the top statistically in her position's requirements is very special, and I think is sometimes overlooked. We as a team are proud of her and her recognition in OUA West. We see her continuing that trend as her all-rookie nod is just the starting point for her career."
